During the research stage of our project we started to look at different examples of the sensors being used in different designs and found several websites the specialise in the development of Arduino based design here are a few examples of the different ways they had used the various sensors and components to there own advantage.
Most of the sensors used on these products are very easy to spot out such as the ultra sound sensor below which is applied on to the vehicle to try and prevent any collisions with stop the motors once the motor sensor has reached a certain destination .The other product use a more elegant approach with the design by hiding the electrical components with clothing or a shell base these are shown by the dress made of LEDS and the moving toy below.
The jobs even to us during field was separated into different sections to give us a better perspective on different ways we can approach the task at hand ,for example in our group we had a two textiles and one fine artist .This developed in the textiles students to stumble on a certain material in which uses special fabric that can conduct electricity ,and the reason why this is special is because this material has a flexible and durable features. Which give us the idea to use the Arduino board on a piece of clothing and give the clothing a function which would react to certain movement of the body .
Learning the basics of the Arduino board required a basic understanding of how there are different kind of electrical currents an example of this is the two different types of electrical current ,for example there are ac and dc electrical currents in which are used to power curtain circuits .The difference between the two is AC uses an alternating current as for DC uses a more direct current .The reason why this is a factor for circuit boards is because in order for the circuit to have the right electrical current ,so that the components in the circuit board do not get over whelmed and a way to control the amount of voltage is going in is by converting the alternative AC current to DC to allow a more steady pace in voltage disruption. An example of a component that uses DC voltage is a battery which depending on the size and quality can be used in all different kind of circuits .
Another way to explain how Arduino board works is by separating the two main features which are voltage and current .A simple way of explaining this would be using a waterfall as an example ,for instance treating the voltage as how high the waterfall is and how strong the current is on a waterfall determines the Amps .
Before we started our session we had to learn the basics of how circuit works .One factor that we need to take into account was that every circuit needed to have a positive and negative input and output to prevent an short circuits accruing this happens both positive and negative are connected creating an overload on the circuit causing a short circuit and essentially frying the circuit .A way to prevent this would to use a resistor which is a component for a circuit board ,that helps control the amount of voltage certain components receive to allow a better ruining circuit .There different kind of resistors used with different sensors ,led ect a way to identify which resistor is best to use for your circuit is the colours shown on each resistor indicating the amount of resistance each one has.
During class we had experimented with different components and sensors ,by using the Arduino board and changing the coding to adjust the strength and frequency the Led operates .
Once we were placed into teams of five we began our task of coming up with an idea using the Arduino board ,which has a function which reacts to some form of kinetic energy ,this can be through a push ,touch or sound .As long as the idea reacts to the users persistent giving a reaction for each encounter . We had an idea of producing a mind map of ideas to try to gain a clear perspective on a ideal product ,however during this stage I had found my self in conflict with my fellow teammates this was due to the fact I was given ideas in a product design mind set . This had allowed us to come with our first idea which was a baby monitor that is used as a door stop to prevent the baby from any potential danger .The way we produce the sensor was using an ultra sound sensor in which emits ultra sounds through the sensor where the sound bounces back to the sensor and the sensor will record the distance and time of the encounter . This will allow us to produce a sensor by recording a certain distance where the ultra sound will receive the sound wave ,allowing us to create a potential switch or in other words a connection that will create a reaction to a certain output to ether create a sound or light up to alert the user .
