Project 4 : Research

During my research into biology I had found myself being attracted to  the form and the detail of DNA the reason for this is DNA as a form is the foundation of what builds the human looks and personal preferences , In other words DNA is kind of like our deep coding such as a computer . The form of DNA is very unique with the colour scheme and the way the actual DNA is structured through the way of being built up in form and texture .

The DNA is the a complex part of the human body and all living things it is what defines us as living beings and decides what our appearance and our ability to learn and everything we do . I had chosen DNA because it has its own complex appearance and deeper meaning which I would very much like to apply the same appearance and the physics idea in order to transfer the ideas on the my design .

Project 4 : Introduction

To design and make a working prototype of a bespoke decorative pendant or a floor lamp  for our Fab Lab. It can be as small as the size of a teapot and as big as your size!

You can work individually [preferred] or in pairs.

For the form/structure and pattern, get inspired from either:

–          Biology and physics

–          Textiles

–          Previous Fab Lab projects.

While your working prototypes should demonstrate the skills of this term’s workshops, all working prototypes will be exhibited in Tommys bar and will be formatively assessed  on Tuesday 10th  December.

The best appropriate design to be voted by staff + students will be housed in the Fab Lab

Form and structure can be almost any size in which in suitable for the users, And the freedom of shape can be rather explored. An example of a artisit called Chuck Hoberman who had specialised in making folding toys . He received some of his ideas for nature and biology. Recently studies

Voronoi diagram is the way of division decomposition of space .A unique way of displaying a services which can be seen in nature such as leaves and the layers on bark and other areas, this concept also inspired structures with buildings such as stadiums and bridges too create a structure .By taking ideas out of nature creates biomimetic .

Project 3 : Poster design

poster design 2

This product was developed with a team and the idea was to create a design which was simple and elegant and would appeal to users by having a simple function and  having a modern look to the final product . For example this project has given me a chance to work as a team and try to identify which position in a team I would like to be in ,so in conclusion I personally felt I wanted too take on the leadership role to this project due to my ability to listen to everyone’s ideas and give critism without take offence to my team .

Project 3 : Final Cad model

These are the final Cad models of what we had produced and as you can see we used a green layer for now as an example of what the actual product will look like giving the consumer a rough idea of what they are going to receive as a product . We displayed the product in four different view and as you can see where the extra functions were displayed to the consumer . These can be indicated on the area located on the side of the product and the ergonomics of the product is displayed through the use of the handle and the slight curve of the circle shape to get the best function out of the product itself .

Project 3 : Design development

These are example of the different shapes and forms way were testing to our final product in order to get the best possible out come for the products relationship with its consumers . This  was done using clay and using our hand to conform to the clay shape to the point where we have a 1.5 inch diameter grip with fingers and palm creating a base in which fits nicely to the product handle creating conformability.

During our research we had found that the best shape given to the handle was a slight curve because it allowed easy access to the resources  given and conformed to the hand very well.

This is an example of using our fingers to create the suitable areas of ergonomics :

Project 3 : Quick logo design

The Idea though the idea of the logo design was to create a design showing the elements of healthy eating and  Eco-friendly feature .We also wanted to add the name of the product to be in corporate into the whole design and the idea of the name of the we gave to the product was called 5iv to show the 5 a day element and the general product name into the idea of the products name.
