Project 3 : Group discussion

Today we have decide for our project as a target market as we will be focusing on a younger age group the reason for this is that we think there is a gap in the market for products that give children the options of eating healthy ,this meaning our design will not be directing health eating directly by enforcing the idea to children but giving the client the options to choose to eat healthy .This will be done by giving idea of healthy eating through methods of using vibrant colours and attracting the children through graphic images of fruit and other aspects of food .


The final choice was trying to influences the idea of having children age group and some how involving the tablet idea of showing healthy eating through the use of applications .

The discussion followed on in trying to attract the kids to the kitchen to influences cooking and adding features of healthy eating in the idea itself.

This was an example of a lunch box design by yanko designs and this design caught our eyes due to the unique form of the product as well as the having a nice function of division for the product and instantly when looking at this product you can identify the target market in which we agreed was a middle class business or office worker who likes the fresh and modern tech.

As an exercise we decide as a group to all write ideas on several posted notes and then introduce these ideas to the group and then decide which one stand out the best ,finally after the discussion we manage to pick out a total of six and then placed the ideas on a design matrix and as a group decide which of the six designs met the right criteria .

The final choice was the organised lunch box , a storage unit in which is used to store healthy foods and last but least a fruit dispenser.

Project 3 : Research (General)


A process intended to maximise efficiency in a working environment , in order to increase the production of goods and services . This is a popular term that is considered Ergonomics and the way this is achieved is by making work related products to become much more comfortable to use . This would be done by studying the relationship between the user and his environment and the adjusting the product to become conform to the body much more effectively were when used multi times will not cause any discomfort being back pains , straining in the hands and body ect


Is when you are trying to find the average scales for the directed target market in order to maximise the productivity of the product . The way to do this is get the range between 1 to 10 and meet the scales around the middle of the scale this will allow you to receive the right measurements for your required product . Of course these measurements are different between every product and the scale is determined by the target market .

Project 3 : Research (Modern kitchen ware)

When coming on to my research there have been an alarming increases in  apps ,that shows people how to cook certain recipes and theses Recipes can be shown using a tablet to help the users create the more wholesome food . This has also created a range of different apps which specialise in producing foods in which are more healthy and are good for your health . So this allowed me to research more good which have help people read the recipes off a tablet more comfortably .

This is an example of a product in which uses a wooden frame to provide a steady base and a nice structure support for the tablet which can show the face in a clear view.

As you can see this stand has another feature of having a detachable chopping board allowing multifunctional process into the design which but however see once the back board of the structure is removed in order to become the chopping board making the tablet less stable to the stand causing problems with the main purpose of the product itself . Also with the product I see the they use a method of a plastic bag as a form of protection for the tablet ,this as a whole does protect the product from water damage .However this leaves the users vision to be restricted which may cause frustration to users and disadvantages for specially challenged eyesight ,also with the plastic case being made of a flimsy elastomer the capability of being able to use the tablet through the material will be restricted along with  having no protection from scratches and stain . Finally the stand and board show a flat smooth bottom meaning that during the cooking process it with cause accident due to having no grip to the also flat table top surface .

This is another modern style product I looked at that may influences more fruit eating to time saving  adults in there late 20s .The reason why I think this is the suitable target market to aim at due to the fact its low in cost and its portable and as well as being able to be used in almost any empty bottle showing its for people who are on a budget and may just had started to be in the working environment and want to save money while having the luxury of freshly squeezed juice.

As you can see very simple function and gives the comfort ability of freshness to the outcome ,however when saying this it seems that the product must have some liquid to be already in the bottle in order to for the bottle no to break during the squeezing process making it a disadvantage for the user meaning the bottle lifespan will decrease ,this squeezer is also just limited to being used when there is a bottle making restriction for the user and efficiency of the product .

Another example of a unique modern Product that is used as a drying rack and helps with the development of influences where designs come from .

This design uses the influences of grass as a form and function to allow comfort and practically use of placing items on to the product to dry efficiently.

Project 3 : Research (Artist)

Ikea as a whole has been one of my main influence due to there wide range of kitchen goods and utensil and there target market seems to be aiming towards middle class to low class citizen and have developed a certain style in which  is modern yet efficient .Examples of this will be shown below:


As you can see Ikea create there products using a unique balance of form and functions having the products be functional with a  décor to the actual product this is done through the use of simplicity to the work of ikea by keeping to one colour allows the whole product to become very vibrant and stand out very create a modern feel to the product , this will resemble a lot to Bauhaus   in the sense it uses a lot of strict dimension and geometric shapes.


This Product will also be another example how Ikea creates a certain style to there work by using vibrant colour to in corporate dominates to there work making the slick curves and edges stand out from the rest. Also the practical function of this product involve having a soft tip which uses a elastomer which has some heat resistant properties ,and due to properties of the elastomer the tip can allow for smooth cooking especially for foods which require a lot of liquids (also good for spreading).


Project 3 : Sustainability / Eco-friendly

Sustainability as a whole is a concept which requires the product or the service to require certain aspects to consider the whole product as a sustainable . The definition of Sustainability derives mostly on the concept of being recyclable ,while sustainability does come from this aspect it also come from several other aspects an these features and be identified in seven different sections.

Project 3 introduction

Today we were given two brief In which we will pursue just one of the briefs in a group ,brief one  was to design a new product in which will be used in an office environment and must be environmentally friendly as well as being aware of the distribution, shipping and packing for the product. Brief two required the group to design a product within a kitchen environment , and was cable of influencing healthy eating and we must identify a specific target market . While looking through the brief today we were going through some ideas and decide to plan out the project by decide straight away what brief we wanted to do and by doing this allowed us to have an idea of what we wanted in our project . The brief we had chosen was the 2nd brief because we all had an idea of what product to do due to the wide range of selection of goods and services .
